Jacob Eason Expected to Transfer to Washngton

Posted January 13, 2018

Eason started the season as Georgia's starting quarterback but sustained a sprained left knee ligament forced him out of the season opener.

Eason finished the 2017 season as a backup after starting 12 of 13 games as a true freshman the year before.

The 20-year-old Lake Stevens, Washington, native went through an up-and-down freshman campaign with the Bulldogs in 2016.

That would also work in Eason's favor, as per NCAA rules he would have to sit out a season.

With Eason gone, Georgia will have two quarterbacks on scholarship for the 2018 season with Fromm and freshman Justin Fields, who enrolled early with the program.

"Going to sit down with my family and figure that out", he told the Seattle Times' Stefanie Loh in Atlanta. The Georgia gunslinger from nearby Lake Stevens, Wash., hasn't even scratched the surface yet, but learning the system for a year as a transfer would be huge for the Huskies if he were to take over in 2019. Fromm took over and led the Bulldogs to the SEC championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff semifinals, where they beat Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl to advance to the finals.

According to 247Sports, sources confirmed on Tuesday Eason is transferring from the University of Georgia to the University of Washington.

The maturation of players like Jake Fromm and Riley Ridley and a No. 1 recruiting class point to good times ahead for Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs. Fromm, who threw for 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions on the season, will enter the 2018 season as Georgia's starter.

On the other side, Washington's starting quarterback is Jake Browning, who would be a senior next year.

Should Eason choose the Huskies, it would give him a year to learn the team's system while providing UW with flexibility.

Eason was a top recruit in the 2016 class, regarded as the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the country by 247Sports.
