Teacher Deyshia Hargrave being approached by an officer at a school board meeting in Vermillion, Louisiana.

Video of the incident was first posted by local station KATC and a 12-minute version was also uploaded to YouTube.

From there, she was forced to the ground and handcuffed. After posing another question, an Abbeville city marshal on duty at the meeting escorted Hargrave out of the meeting.

Deyshia Hargrave, a middle school teacher in the Vermilion Parish school system, was videotaped being escorted out of a room and then wrestled into handcuffs by a city marshal on January 8.

When the officer told her to "stop resisting", she responded: "I am not, you just pushed me to the floor.I am way smaller than you". The board president had ruled her out of order, saying the public comment period was for comments, not questions.

The board member said what was on the agenda was the superintendent's new contract and members of the audience answer back, "with a raise".

Hargrave later raises her hand and when called on again asks a question about the issue of teacher salaries and pay raises. She questioned the raise a time when pay teachers and other staff has stagnated, despite larger class sizes and improved outcomes for students. The Constitution prohibits the government from punishing or retaliating against people for expressing their views, and the fact that a schoolteacher was arrested at a public meeting of the school board is especially troubling.

A Louisiana teacher who was forcibly removed from a school board hearing in a viral video clip was booked on two crimes and bonded out of jail Tuesday morning, court documents show.

"Deyshia Hargrave's expulsion from a public meeting and subsequent arrest are unacceptable and raise serious constitutional concerns", the organization said in an emailed news release.

The teacher was booked into jail last night, even though the superintendent told KATC shortly after the meeting that he had called to inform police that the system didn't want any charges pressed.
