Salah beat Liverpool team mate Sadio Mane of Senegal and Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to win the award on Thursday night in Accra, Ghana.

In the global arena Salah was also successful - the leader of the team of Egypt has helped his team for the first time in 28 years to reach the final stage of the world Cup.

"It was very hard to explain the moment, to qualify to the World Cup after 28 years", he said after the ceremony in Ghana.

Salah was then joint top-scorer in the final round of qualifiers as Egypt reached the World Cup for the first time since 1990. I want to dedicate this award to the kids in Egypt and Africa.

Salah received the price at an award ceremony held at the Confederation of African Football in Accra, Ghana. I had a fantastic time, with the national team and the team, it was an unbelievable moment.
