Tunisia Bans UAE Emirates Airline From Landing In Tunis

Posted December 25, 2017

Tunisia's transport ministry said in a statement that the Arab carrier would be suspended until it found a way to operate according to worldwide law and treaties.

BBC said Tunisia banned Emirates airline after a number of Tunisian women were prevented from boarding its flights. They called on the Tunisian authorities to take diplomatic measures to reverse the UAE decision, which they described as "thoughtless" and against all diplomatic norms and procedures of global transport.

Tunisia's state-run news agency TAP quoted the UAE ambassador to Tunisia as saying that the measures were "temporary and relating to security arrangements" and that the travel restrictions have been lifted.

The North African country of Tunisia has announced the suspension of all Emirates Airlines flights to and from its nation two days after the United Arab Emirates-based carrier barred women from Tunisia to board their flights to Dubai.

According to the email, the only exceptions to this directive were females who hold Tunisian diplomatic passports or those with valid UAE residential visas.

In a statement on Friday, Tunisia's Ministry of Transport said that such actions are "illegal" and "contradictory to the regulations in force in global civil aviation".
