Pounds of Pot Was for Christmas Presents, Elderly Couple Says

Posted December 23, 2017

Grandma's are notorious for shelling out socks and underwear as Christmas presents, but one elderly couple recently broke from tradition and planned to give out 60 pounds of pot to their loved ones for the holidays. And while the Jirons' home state of California has legalized marijuana for adult recreational use beginning January 1, 2018, the couples' load of "Christmas presents" would still have gotten them into trouble had they been pulled over there. Multiple containers of concentrated THC also were found, officials said.

"Either the senior citizens have a lot of friends or they were really feeling the gift of giving this year, because they swear that the $336,000 worth of weed was all going to get wrapped up as Christmas gifts", snarked Vice.

On Tuesday, the 80-year-old man and 83-year-old woman were pulled over in their Toyota Tacoma, and told law enforcement that they were traveling from California to Vermont. Barbara is the second defendant, and was "cited in the case but was not jailed 'due to some medical issues,'" Vrbka told the York News-Times. The truck reeked of raw marijuana, an officer said.

"They said the marijuana was for Christmas presents", Lt. Paul Vrbka told the York News-Times.

The deputies launched a search that turned up almost 60 pounds of marijuana, stored in boxes inside the car's pickup topper, with a street value of around $336,000.

The couple was being held in York County jail on suspicion of felony drug charges.

When asked about the Jirons' custody status by the Washington Post, authorities simply replied, "they're not here".

Some, if not most, games are designed so that you cannot pick up these items separately - you can only get them in loot boxes. It does seem odd that we have reached a point where games flaunt "No in-app purchases!" as a selling point, but here we are.
