Govt committed towards development of Northeast: PM Modi

On the development of the region, the Prime Minister underlined the fact that his government constituted the ministry for development of north eastern region.

The BJP's agenda, Modi said, will be to ensure speedy and all-round development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Shillong-Nongstoin-Rongjeng-Tura Road in Shillong, Meghalaya and Tuirial Hydropower Project in Aizawl along with several other development projects in these states.

The prime minister also said that he wants to make Meghalaya a top tourist destination, and said the Centre has sanctioned Rs 100 crore for this objective.

Earlier, Meghalaya BJP president also addressed a public rally. "The completion of this project is a boon for the people of Mizoram", he said.

Modi then travelled to Meghalaya capital Shillong, where he inaugurated the BJP's state office and inaugurated the 261-km long East West Corridor, which connects Shillong with Tura in Garo Hills region of the state.

Playing the "development" card, PM Modi in his visit to Mizoram and Meghalaya on Saturday highlighted the number of projects taken and proposed by the NDA government for the over all development of Northeast India.

Adding on to this, PM also quoted the developmental projects initiated by the Union government in the state.

"The government is executing 15 new rail lines for almost 14000 km length, this will cost Rs 47,000 crore and boost infrastructure in the North-East region", he added. "We are committed to bring all the state capitals of the North East region on the rail map. The Union government has sanctioned around Rs 100 crore for development of tourist destinations in the state", Modi said.

Prime Minister also quoted that Meghalaya will complete its 50 years of Constitution formation in 2022 and its importance.

"In the spirit of "Sabka Saath Sabka Vikaas", every Indian, irrespective of caste, gender, religion, class must have equal opportunities to partake in the new prosperity".
