Every previous NCAA women's basketball champion since 1983 has been invited to the White House, spanning five different presidents.

"We did hear from the White House about attending tomorrow's event, but we will not be able to attend", Staley says.

Appearing as the team ended practice for the day, Staley bluntly said why she and the team wasn't at the White House appearing alongside other NCAA Championship teams. "It's what national champions do".

When South Carolina's invitation to Friday's White House event finally did arrive earlier this month, Staley declined it.

Months passed and the White House invitation never came.

The judge in the New Jersey Democrats' federal bribery trial declared a mistrial Thursday. The jury showed signs this week that they would be unable to reach a verdict.

Trips to the White House by sports teams this year are no longer a given. Unfortunately for the team, whoever is running the Snapchat account for the White House apparently doesn't know the difference between a coxswain and a scrum. The NBA champion Golden State Warriors, meanwhile, were never invited because star point guard Steph Curry said his team doesn't support Trump and his agenda.

USC released a statement from Dawn Staley on the matter Thursday night following the Gamecocks 66-36 win over Clemson.

This is the University of Washington's women's rowing team, not the women's rugby team. The Cubs also had the larger and more traditional visit with President Barack Obama in January, four days before the Trump inauguration.
