Sri Lanka close in strong position

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday named uncapped batsman Imam-ul-Haq as the lone fresh face in the 15-member Pakistan squad, while dropping former skipper Azhar Ali for the five-match One-day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka, starting in Dubai from October 13.

Pakistan trail by 1-0 in the series after they lost the first Test by 21 runs in Abu Dhabi.

Pakistan have been dealt a major blow after an injury ruled Mohammad Amir out of the upcoming 5-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Sri Lanka made two changes from the first Test, leaving out Lahiru Thirimanne and Lakshan Sandakan for Samarawickrama and paceman Lahiru Gamage while Pakistan brought in fast bowler Wahab Riaz in place of the unfit Hasan Ali. Mohammad Aamir, since he returned to worldwide cricket in January 2016, has bowled 821.3 overs collectively across all three formats in global cricket, third-most by a fast bowler after Kagiso Rabada (896.3) and Josh Hazlewood (846.1). Captain Sarfraz Ahmed was a picture of bewilderment.

The rookie out of UTEP was the last remaining healthy back active for the game, with fellow rookie Devante Mays inactive. He'll be relied on to keep Green Bay's offense balanced next week while the rest of their depth chart heals up.

They started the day on 254-3 and looked like they could carry their bats to stumps on day two, until opener Karunaratne was sixth man out, an inside edge deflecting on to his stumps just before dinner.

Karunaratne plays a shot during the second day. He scored 196 runs by playing 405 balls. But this being a Pakistan-Sri Lanka Test, things rarely go that smoothly for an ascendant team.

In any event, Wahab collected himself at the tea break, and it was his discipline that helped keep Pakistan in the match through that Amir-less second session. Sami Aslam and Shan Masood are still in field for the team. The ball came in with the natural angle towards off and middle which forced Shafiq to play at it, but then moved away a touch after pitching to take the outside edge.
