Mueller Asked White House for Information About Pres

Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is heading the Justice Department's investigation into Russian Federation meddling in the election and whether members of President Donald Trump's campaign colluded with the country to help influence the election, is reportedly seeking important documents related to several key moments of Trump's tumultuous first few months in office.

One of the requests is about a meeting Mr. Trump had in May with Russian officials in the Oval Office the day after James B. Comey, the F.B.

The requests show that parts of Mueller's investigation are focusing on the President's own actions.

In recent weeks, Mueller has asked the White House to produce all documents, emails and correspondence related to at least 13 different subject areas, according to the reporting, which was later confirmed by other outlets.

In addition to seeking documents about the firing of National Security Adviser Mike Flynn and FBI Director James Comey, The Times also reported - according to White House officials interviewed - that Mueller is interested in an Oval Office meeting Trump had with Russian officials.

Mueller has also requested documents about the circumstances of the firing of Michael T. Flynn, who was Trump's first national security adviser.

In June 2016, Trump Jr. agreed to meet a woman whom he thought was a Russian government lawyer who might have dirt on Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

In response, Trump Jr. released a statement claiming that the meeting was "primarily" about "a program about the adoption of Russian children". But the obstruction of justice and the lying ultimately may be what puts an end to this White House.

Mueller also asked for any email or document the White House holds which relates to Manafort.

One of Mr Trump's lawyers, Ty Cobb, told the Times: "We can't comment on any specific requests being made or our conversations with the special counsel".

Mueller is asking the White House for documents related to some of Trump's most scrutinized actions while in office. So Mueller's team seems to want to know if Trump himself was trying to cover anything up in micromanaging his son's disclosures about the meeting. But it's his job to make sure all documents related to these requests are being found and sent to Mueller's team.

The president also faced criticism for the delay in dismissing Flynn after receiving warnings that the former intelligence officer had mislead the public - and Vice President Pence - about the nature of a December phone call with the Russian ambassador.

Two bills that could curb the power of President Donald Trump's administration to fire special counsel Robert Mueller are set for a hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. Yates has said that before her firing, she had raised concerns with McGahn that Flynn was misleading White House officials on his contact with foreign figures.

Mr Flynn was sacked after it emerged he had been misleading about contacts he had with Mr Kislyak.

"The president once again has the right to fire the Federal Bureau of Investigation director", Painter said.
