Goran Dragic leads Slovenia to Eurobasket glory

Slovenia won the EuroBasket 2017 after beating Serbia 93-85 in Istanbul on Sunday.

Dragic, who plays for the NBA's Miami Heat, lit up the second period and finished the game with 35 points, seven rebounds and three assists in what is likely to be his final game for the national team, should he make good on his pledge to now step away from global basketball.

With Dragic out, Serbia briefly took the lead at 79-78.

Serbia did not give up and fought back during the third and fourth quarters, and managed to even the score at 82-82 with 3:22 to go in the final.

"He was cramping on the sidelines", Slovenia coach Igor Kokoskov told fiba.basketball, the official website for basketball's governing body, after the game.

Kokoskov was already without Luka Doncic, Slovenia's star teenager who had to leave the game injured midway through third quarter.

Earlier, Spain defeated Russian Federation 93-85 to take third place.

Russia, who have not won a medal since bronze in 2011, were paced by Aleksei Shved's 18 points.
