Former Trump aide Sebastian Gorka to return to Breitbart

However, Trump will not go until the conditions on the ground are safe and it is certain that his travel will not affect recovery efforts, the official said.

In his first post-Trump administration interview, former White House counterterrorism adviser Sebastian Gorka said former chief strategist Steve Bannon and others in their camp have been "systematically undermined" in the White House.

An American citizen who was born in Britain to Hungarian parents, Gorka made a habit of assailing the news media for its coverage of Trump, insisting that reports of turmoil in the White House had "almost no resemblance to reality".

The controversial figure's departure comes a week after chief strategist Steve Bannon left the White House.

Gorka's TV appearances - during which he often sparred with hosts and reporters - were popular with Trump, however, complicating decisions about his future.

The unflappable Englishman was seen in many quarters as the President's most ardent defender, going on a litany of news outlets both in the USA and United Kingdom to answer questions on behalf of the Trump administration.

Gorka's departure has revived discussion of a topic that had dogged him throughout his tenure: It was unclear what he actually did in the White House. "And I think there's been some unfair criticism of Sebastian Gorka, but one criticism, or at least one question that seems legitimate, is no one's ever figured out exactly what he does in the White House".

Fox News reported Saturday that Gorka may be headed back to Breitbart News in his post-White House days.

Breitbart confirmed it is talking with Gorka about a new role.

Gorka also was a member of the White House's Strategic Initiatives Group, which he described as a focal point for task forces collaborating with people outside government.

Sebastian Gorka, now former deputy assistant to President Donald Trump, was sacked on Friday - or was he?

Bannon was removed from his permanent seat on the council in April, and several officials who came to the council under fired national security adviser Michael Flynn were also dismissed in recent weeks, including retired Col. Derek Harvey and the council's senior director of intelligence, Ezra Cohen-Watnick.

Gorka, a United States citizen who was born in Britain and has Hungarian parents, was known for his dire warnings of Islamic terrorism while at Breitbart.
