Hassan Rouhani vows to pull Iran out of diplomatic isolation

Rouhani's key political achievement during the past four years in office was signing a nuclear deal with six major world powers - UK, China, France, Germany, Russia and the U.S. - which put an end to a decade-long dispute over the country's nuclear programme.

Washington will "use any excuse to make a fuss" against Iran, Iranian Supremem Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said at a ceremony marking the formal endorsement of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani for his second term in office. His inauguration takes place a day after US President Donald Trump expanded sanctions against the theocratic nation for its missile programmes.

Interior Minister of the 11th government, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, will first present a report on the 12th presidential election, followed by a reading of Rouhani's validation order by Mohammadi Golpayegani, Head of Ayatollah Khamenei's Office.

"The response to the hostility is to become stronger", Khamenei said, describing the United States government as "the top aggressor and the most shameless "enemy of Iran". "I declare once again that with the election concluded, the time for unity and cooperation has begun".

"The nuclear deal is a sign of Iran's goodwill on the worldwide stage", he said, referring to the 2015 agreement with world powers to curb its atomic programme in exchange for an easing of sanctions. Following the swearing-in ceremony, the President will have two weeks to submit his new cabinet to the Parliament for the vote of confidence.
