Officials said the fire was 15 percent contained after almost $11 million was spent to battle the blaze.
As of 4 p.m. Friday, the Detwiler Fire had burned 74,083 acres, more than the 2015 Butte Fire that killed two residents and burned more than 500 homes in Calaveras County.
"We're doing everything we can to protect that town and all the other communities in that area", Amy Head, a spokesman for Cal Fire, said. The power supply for Yosemite Valley in the national park is also threatened as the transmission lines are in the direct path of the fast-moving blaze.
CAL FIRE says 50 homes have been destroyed and 11 damaged.
