The federal government will issue an additional 15,000 visas under its H2-B visa program this fiscal year, according to the Department of Homeland Security, a decision that may benefit trainers who rely on the program for backstretch help.

DHS said the limited number of 15,000 was based on an exemption from the cap on the H-2B visas past year and that DHS and the Labor Department believe it will satisfy businesses' labor needs.

The Trump administration has approved a rule allowing 15,000 additional temporary foreign workers to receive visas for seasonal work in the United States, the Department of Homeland Security announced Monday. During the presidential campaign, Trump explained his use of H-2B visas by saying that "getting help in Palm Beach during the season is nearly impossible".

The H-2B nonimmigrant visa program US employers who meet specific regulatory requirements to bring low skilled foreign workers to the United States to fill temporary non-agricultural jobs. A new way to report general H-2B abuse and employer violations has also been established. But yesterday, the Department of Homeland Security moved to expand another type of visa, the H-2B, which allows lower-skilled workers in on a seasonal basis. The ruling stipulates that, in order to qualify for additional visas, applicants must prove that their business is likely to suffer irreparable harm if it can not employ H-2B non-immigrant workers. "In President Trump's own words, 'the influx of foreign workers holds down salaries, keeps unemployment high, and makes it hard for poor and working class Americans-including immigrants themselves and their children-to earn a middle class wage, '" Stein added.
