AG Sessions slams violence in Chicago

Following the official launch of the task force, Trump tweeted that federal help was needed to combat Chicago "epidemic" level of violence.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, speaking Friday on the Fox News Channel's morning show, "Fox & Friends", said the Justice Department is "sending in additional gun investigators" to Chicago and that he has urged the US attorney's office to prosecute gun cases aggressively.

According to a report by the Sun-Times' Frank Main, the strike force will bring in 20 extra Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents deployed to the city.

According to the Sun-Times, the ATF agents are partnering with the Chicago Police Department and Illinois State Police to solve gun homicides and track down gun traffickers using ballistics technology.

The pace of murders in Chicago is on track with figures from past year, which was the city's deadliest in two decades.

Shortly after taking office in January, the president tweeted that if city of Chicago did not fix the "carnage", he would send in federal aid.
