Super Meat Boy Co-creator Unveils New Platformer The End Is Nigh

Posted June 09, 2017

A few days ago, The Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy creator Edmund McMillen teased a short video of a secret project he's now working on, with the promise that all would be revealed soon.

Titled The End Is Nigh, the game is an adventure platformer set after the "end of the world". It sounds just as out of the box as his previous projects. Announced via a new trailer on his YouTube channel and a brand new blog post, The End Is Nigh! gives us a quick glimpse into what we can expect from the upcoming, violent platformer. It's a future, according to the description, filled with pain and suffering as well as one rife with stress. The PC version has actually been dated for July 12, while the Nintendo Switch version will arrive "later", and "possibly" alongside other consoles, maybe even PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The player's job is to help him literally make a friend out of all the parts and pieces of people he finds.

Along the way you will apparently collect video game cartridges and tumors, across more than 600 levels within 12-plus explorable chapters, The 20-plus collectible cartridges are said to be their own fully playable mini games. The game is made in the same vein as Super Meat Boy, with a hardcore platforming feel. And, like with Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac, there will be tons of secrets... and death.
