On Tuesday, CNN cited Congressional sources that cite USA intelligence agencies to suggest Russian Federation may have "derogatory" information on President Trump.

CNN has not been able to verify the allegations about the derogatory information in the dossier, but current and former United States officials say some of the Russia-to-Russia conversations in the dossier have been corroborated.

A dossier compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele at the request of anti-Trump Republicans a year ago - and presented by top USA intelligence officials to Trump and President Barack Obama in January - said the Kremlin had kompromat, or compromising information, that could be used against Trump and his associates in the future.

Manafort is known to have extensive business ties to the Russians, but he has repeatedly denied allegations that he has illicit financial links with the Russians.

"There appears to be no limit to which the President's political opponents will go to perpetuate this false narrative", the White House said, "including illegally leaking classified material".

Last week, reports emerged Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner allegedly discussed setting up a secret communications channel with the Russian government to facilitate sensitive discussions about the conflict in Syria shortly after the election. "All this does is play into the hands of our adversaries and put our country at risk".

Christopher Steele, the former British spy who compiled the dossier, gave some of the information to the Federal Bureau of Investigation - and the agency once considered paying for the whole report.
