Joey Logano calls Richmond penalty 'pretty severe'

Posted May 06, 2017

Because of a race violation, Joey Logano will not be able to use five playoff points he earned for winning the Richmond International Raceway for the NASCAR playoffs.

"The fact of the matter is we're winning right now, and when your auto wins, it gets put through tech a lot".

"The rules are really black and white, though". You have to find that edge and get right to it.

However, his vehicle failed post-race technical checks at NASCAR's R&D facility, therefore the win has been declared "encumbered".

He still remains the official victor of the race.

The bombing aimed to erode IS's capabilities in Afghanistan, but it was also seen as a warning to the much bigger Taliban group. They faced soaring casualties in 2016, up by 35 per cent with 6,800 soldiers and police killed, according to a U.S. watchdog.

Team Penske's other crew chief, Paul Wolfe, will miss this weekend's race at Talladega as he serves the second of a three-race suspension this weekend after Team Penske withdrew its request to deter his suspension until its final appeal is heard. According to the penalty grid NASCAR issued, the No. 22 team did not adhere to the following: the Truck trailing arm spacer/pinion angle shim mating surfaces must be planar and must be in complete contact with corresponding mating surfaces at all points and at all times. Crew chief Todd Gordon was suspended two races. Because the victory is encumbered, Logano still receives credit for winning; however he can not use the win to earn playoff eligibility nor receive the five bonus playoff points he received. "When you're a little bit over, we're sitting talking about what we are today". The loss of 25 driver points only drops him one spot in the standings, from fourth to fifth. "I think we push as hard as we can because we're looking for hundredths of a second - every race team is - the fact of the matter is we're winning right now and when your vehicle wins, it gets put through tech a lot".

"It was legal when it rolled across the NASCAR inspection platform to start with (before the race), and I would say just race loads and everything else, it became low enough in load that the back of the pinion gap opened up a 32nd of an inch".

Denny Hamlin, who finished third place in the race at RIR, was also penalized following the post race inspection for having a missing lug nut.

Logano was adamant that swerving had nothing to do with the penalty process. The 26-year-old driver said the violation is considered minor and didn't make his auto any faster. "To a certain point", Logano said.
