Wenger: FA Cup win over Manchester City proved the doubters wrong

Aaron Ramsey vowed last night to win the FA Cup for Arsène Wenger after admitting that he and his Arsenal team-mates had let their manager down with some poor performances this season.

Arsenal are seventh in the league, seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester City with a game in hand.

Arsenal came from a goal down to beat Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday in the FA Cup semifinal, with Alexis Sanchez scoring the victor from close range in extra time.

Arsenal seem likely to miss out on a top-four finish in the Premier League for the first time in 21 seasons under Wenger but winning a third FA Cup in four years could well persuade him to defy his critics and sign a new contract.

The Gunners will play Chelsea in next month's Wembley showpiece after Alexis Sanchez scrambled an extra-time victor in a controversial clash on Sunday. We have shown the character we have in this team.

"He has the individual quality to make the difference", said Wenger.

Asked if he thought the ball had stayed in play, Toure said: "Definitely, and it was a penalty and something more". Slowly, we became better and better and in the second half I felt we were very strong, in extra-time very strong, we always looked solid and unsafe.

City dominated and Sergio Aguero had a seemingly good goal disallowed in the first half after Leroy Sane's cross was ruled to have drifted out of play before falling to the Argentinian. If you get your starting lineup wrong and you change it half-time, people say - 'you see, he's a tactical magician because he changed the team at half-time.' But they forget that he got it wrong at the start.

"Even though the victory was not flawless, it will give us a little more confidence".

After leading City to 10 successive wins at the start of the season, City have gradually fallen back into the bad habits that prompted the club's Abu Dhabi-based owners to axe Manuel Pellegrini and bring in Guardiola.

"We will improve next season, we'll be stronger, all the games away against the Premier League teams". Over the whole game, we were supportive and combative.

"I think we're going to be under pressure in every game now because of the position we're in in the league", Cech said.
