Hillary Clinton disagrees with Trump's reason for ordering airstrikes on Syria

Clinton, who spoke at the Women in the World conference in NY on Thursday, called for the U.S. Congress to launch an investigation into the matter.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton highlighted the hypocrisy of President Donald Trump citing the "beautiful babies" killed in a chemical weapons attack in Syria as one of his reasons for ordering Thursday's USA missile strike against a Syrian government airbase while his travel ban still barred Syrians of all ages from entering the United States as refugees in a speech made Friday at a luncheon for Annie's List in Houston, Texas.

Clinton during her tenure as the Secretary of State under former President Barack Obama - and during the presidential campaign - advocated more aggressive action to deter Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, CBS News reported. "But the action taken last night needs to be followed by a broader strategy to end Syria's civil war", Clinton said, speaking at a Houston luncheon for Annie's List, a Texas group helping to elect Democratic women.

"We can not in one breath speak of protecting Syrian babies, and in the next, close America's doors to them", she said.

The evacuation deal was brokered by Qatar, negotiating on behalf of the rebels, and Iran, on behalf of the government, in March. Many medical workers, activists and former fighters have refused to redeploy with the military that once shelled their homes.

General John Nicholson, head of USA and global forces in Afghanistan, said the "weapon achieved its intended purpose". A statement on the IS-supporting Amaq news agency denied there were any IS casualties in the bomb strike.

When it was put to him that the game might have been stopped if it was a boxing match, he said: "We must have a granite chin". I will say again, if you analyse the last games , my understanding of the rules have changed a little bit.

On Thursday, President Trump ordered a strike on Shayrat airfield and nearby Syrian military infrastructure in response to a chemical attack that killed at least 80 people in the northwestern part of Syria on Tuesday. And while a lot of the people who agreed with Trump the candidate are confused and concerned by the attack, Democrat hawks are thrilled, this being a war they'd wanted for a long time. "What [Vladimir] Putin wanted to do was sow distrust and confusion as well as influence our election", she said and added that its time USA political leaders act like "patriotic Americans". Her own 9-point loss to Trump in Texas, she said, was the closest presidential election in the state in two decades.

"By the time they finished with me, I was Typhoid Mary", said Clinton.

Hillary Clinton continued her lifelong advocacy for women during her onstage interview with Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times at the Women in the World Summit on Thursday.
