Chelsea's Antonio Conte: Premier League title race interesting again

Posted April 11, 2017

The Premier League finally resumed yesterday after the global break and the biggest shock came at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea lost 2-1 to 16th-place Crystal Palace.

The Blues - beaten for the first time at Stamford Bridge since September's loss to Liverpool and just a second time in 18 games under Conte - now lead second-placed Tottenham by seven points with nine games to go.

"At the end (of the season) if we deserve to win the title we will be very happy". I think they showed they were a good team.

"This league was not finished before Saturday's game and it is not finished now". Their resurgence under new boss Sam Allardyce continues. So we must recover and rest, and remember that in England there are no easy games.

The Blues will want to avoid giving Spurs the chance to close the gap to just four points in midweek though when they host Pep Guardiola's Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, a game in which they will be looking to quickly bounce back.

"If we were able keep this position it means that we deserve this". I know Man City started the season wanting to win the title.

Zaha was subject of scrutiny over the global break, having rejected the chance to play for England in favour of the Ivory Coast, where he was born. Conte, however, insists his side will treat it like any other game.

"Wilf must feel really good about himself", Allardyce said. "The potential's becoming a reality".

Not too long after the equaliser, Palace struck again - in the 12th minute.

"It's very hard to see this situation".

"I take it game by game".

"We hope in the future to be better, the decisions. Yes, it's a pity but today wasn't our day".

However, Chelsea did not appear any more likely to score and were reduced to hopeful balls into the box as Hazard's influence faded. "We dominated the game".

Hennessey had to move quickly to keep out Marcos Alonso's risky cross-shot, and dash from his line to prevent Costa from stretching to poke the ball home. That has helped with our defensive resilience: "one goal conceded in four games, and we've won all four with him in the side".
