The Oak Brook, Ill. -based company said the revamped quarter pounders will be available by the middle of 2018 at most of its 14,000 U.S. restaurants.

Its all an attempt to regain some of its lost customers - earlier this month McDonald's Corp. acknowledged that it lost 500 million customer transactions since 2012, primarily due to its competition.

Executives have been boosting traffic with the all-day breakfast and recently promoting different sizes of Big Macs.

That sales bump suggests McDonald's has been losing business at lunch and dinner, as more and more restaurant chains vie for the dining dollar.

"Today's announcement is part of a continuing food journey for McDonald's", McDonald's US president Chris Kempczinski said.

The word "change" has surrounded McDonald's lately.

And while nutrition will remain the same, he said, burgers with fresh beef will taste better.

A top McDonald's franchisee said in a memo to other franchisees last July that the brand struggling to remain relevant, especially with younger consumers. The publication reports that McDonald's has been using frozen meat since the 1970s. Workers then put the sandwich together.

Using fresh beef is a way for McDonald's to stand tall against its competitors, which include "better burger" chains like Shake Shack, Five Guys, and Chipotle's new burger restaurant, Tasty Made.

McDonald's investors reacted positively.

Restaurants in Alaska, Hawaii and some airports won't be getting the fresh beef, the company said. This included the Quarter Pounder with cheese, the Double Quarter Pounder with cheese, the Bacon Clubhouse Burger, and the Quarter Pounder Deluxe.
