Seahawks Sign Eddie Lacy, Want Him to Be Heavier

The Seattle Seahawks signed Eddie Lacy away from the Green Bay Packers with a one-year, $5.5 million contract.

Woodhead got more guarantees from the Ravens ($3.25 million) than Eddie Lacy is getting from the Seahawks.

No position in the National Football League has been devalued in recent years more than running back. The rest is up to Lacy, who needs to keep his weight at a certain level to pick up $385,000 in weight bonuses and ne needs to be on the active roster each week to attain $1 million in cumulative weekly roster bonuses.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy criticized Lacy's weight in January 2016, and Lacy responded by getting himself in better shape last season.

Lacy was a free agent this offseason after missing 11 games in the 2016 season due to injury.

During his free-agency tour, Lacy visited the Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings and his former team, the Green Bay Packers, and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Lacy weighed in at 267 pounds during one of those stops.

"He's a big back".

In a ideal world for them, Lacy would shed 20 pounds or so from his current weight of 267, but they indeed want him to be a load to bring down. "Thomas brings us great energy and C.J. and Alex (Collins) add in, too, so I think it makes a really good position group for us". According to ESPN Stats & Information, he's averaged 2.15 yards per rush after first contact since his rookie season in 2013, which is indicative of his ability to break tackles. Christine Michael (172 yards, 3.7 average) remains a free agent. "I've always thought that's really valuable when you can have two guys or three guys that you can work, and we have not had any hesitation going back to our college days".

Charles, Adrian Peterson and Latavius Murray all have visits scheduled and teams interested while LeGarrette Blount after 19 touchdowns for New England also remains without a home for next season. He said Lacy understands that in order for him to cash in after a one-year deal, he must be in shape and have a big year.

The former Packers running back will try to prove his critics wrong this season in Seattle. This is a big deal for him, it's a one-year contract for him.
