In a big boost for the Manipur government, the United Naga Council has agreed to lift its economic blockade.
The UNC's decision, which was a key election plank of the BJP, was announced after tripartite talks between the central government, the Manipur government and the UNC on Sunday in Senapati district of Manipur.
The meeting led by Satyendra Garg, joint secretary (north east) at the Union ministry of home affairs, agreed to "create (a) conducive environment for the democratic process of consultation and dialogue".
The meeting also decided that the Manipur government will unconditionally release the arrested UNC leaders and all the cases related to economic blockade against the Naga tribes leaders and students leaders will be closed.

From midnight on Sunday, March 19, the Manipur blockade will be lifted.
Taking over the reins of the state on March 15, BJP chief minister N. Biren Singh promised to lift the blockade within 72 hours.

This talks were occasioned by ongoing economic blockade by UNC since November 1 last on the issue of creation of new districts.
