These events are shown in 2014's "X-Men: Days of Future Past", when Wolverine is sent to the past to prevent Mystique from assassinating Dr. Bolivar Trask, which led to a campaign against mutants. Wolverine is a great character and Hugh Jackman has done the role justice.

Keen more than holds her own with the adults in the cast and brings a surprising amount of nuance to her character. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a tired Logan.
But won't we already know what happens to them? "Logan" director James Mangold said he wanted to make a film that moved the audience He did not want other mutants and other worldly technology to crowd the story and take time away from the emotional story he wanted to tell. "It's like, 'It's OK, I'll be back here - I'm doing a movie called The Greatest Showman, I'll be back here in six months". "I am really invested in it".
To be clear, I'm not entirely sure Logan is going to provide a glimpse at an alternate X-Men timeline, much of this is still theoretical at this point.
On the eve of release, Logan screenwriter Scott Frank has shed new light on the film's pre-production process, including how one particular incarnation of James Mangold's R-rated thriller nearly made room for Wolverine's sibling and sworn enemy, Sabretooth. With the new movie being Hugh Jackman's last Wolverine picture as well as the latest Marvel film, it would seem a no-brainer for movie theaters to present it with IMAX's top tier picture. Mangold, too, finds inspiration in the moments between these characters, framing moving (in both senses) images such as Logan tenderly carrying his father figure up a flight of stairs and to bed.
Logan is a dark, sorrowful and at times mournful film.
