Curbside delivery is coming by year's end — McDonald's

Through technology, delivery has changed the way customers order, pay, track and receive food and provide feedback.

McDonald's is going high tech; with app for ordering, and expanded delivery.

The company estimates that in US, France, the UK, Germany, and Canada - its five largest markets - 75% of the population live within three miles of a McDonald's outlet.

Brady says the company's new research shows it has lost once loyal customers to competing fast-food chains, not fast-casual spots like Chipotle (CMG).

McDonald's Corp. (MCD) has an aggressive plan to win back customers with mobile ordering and improved food, said a company executive at an investor conference in Chicago Wednesday.

For those who would rather not visit a McDonald's at all, the company said it is "experimenting with different delivery models" toexpand delivery services.

Asked by an analyst why a person would order McDonald's once delivery is widely available in the restaurant industry, Easterbrook said the chain's expansive footprint gives it the advantage of being able to get food to people more quickly.

Inside the restaurants, McDonald's is introducing electronic kiosks where customers can place their orders and skip queuing at the main counter.

McDonald's is joining the club as the latest fast restaurant with plans to add an order-and-pay feature to its smartphone app.

McDonald's had 14,000 locations in the United States, including 311 in New Jersey as of late past year. The "mobile order-and-pay" feature is expected to be available at 14,000 McDonald's restaurants across the US later this year.

It plans to use a third of its US$1.7 billion (NZ$2.4 billion) capital budget for 2017 to open new restaurants.

Customers can also pick up orders made via the app in-store or at the drive-thru.
