Who is hosting this year's Oscars?

Hidden Figures, about African-American women "computers" in the 1960's space program, is boosted by its position as the clear favorite of African-Americans: almost one in three blacks say it should win Best Picture.

Best Actress: The most lackluster category out of the six discussed is absent of Rebecca Hall and her gripping performance in "Christine", the best by an actress in a lead role this past year.

According to a recent Morning Consult, 47 percent chose "don't know/no opinion" when asked which movie they want to see take home the top prize on Oscar night, February 26. He's already nabbed all the major directing awards (Golden Globe, BAFTA, Directors Guild), so if he doesn't win, it'll be a huge surprise. Which is not necessarily a canary in the coal mine - Barry Jenkins' Moonlight script is an expected Oscar victor, albeit in the adapted screenplay category and not original screenplay, where La La Land may triumph - but perhaps points to flagging guild support for Chazelle's film.

There will be 24 categories at the 2017 Oscars - read the full list of nominations here. Moonlight might aim to turn spoiler for La La Land and Barry Jenkins might clinch the trophy but that seems to be a long shot.

You may have heard that La La Land scooped up 14 nominations and that Moonlight was the best-reviewed film of the year. But the real race is between Isabelle Huppert for Elle and Emma Stone for La La Land.

As for the acting awards, Americans continue to respond to the people they know best: Denzel Washington is the clear favorite for Best Actor for his role in Fences, while Emma Stone is the Best Actress frontrunner for La La Land.
